What is Durak?
Durak (Russian for "fool") is the most popular card game in Russia, Ukraine and across the Russian-speaking world, and a favourite in Israel too. There is no single winner: everyone who gets rid of their cards is safe, and the last player still holding cards is the durak. Games are fast, social and full of small bluffs, which is why families have played it for generations.
Durak Tab Joy brings the feel of a real table: cards slide across the felt, the beaten pile grows on the side, the trump card sits under the deck, and the bots play like real opponents. The whole game is available in English, Hebrew, Russian and Ukrainian.
Durak card game rules in a minute
- Each player gets 6 cards from a 36-card deck (6 to Ace). The next card is turned face up under the deck: its suit is trumps.
- The attacker plays a card. The defender must beat it with a higher card of the same suit, or with any trump.
- The other players may throw in more cards of any rank already on the table. The defender has to beat them all (at most 6 per round).
- If every card is beaten, they go to the discard pile and the defender attacks next. If not, the defender picks up everything on the table.
- Everyone draws back up to 6 cards. Once the deck runs out, players with no cards drop out. The last one holding cards is the durak.
In transfer Durak (perevodnoy) the defender may also pass the attack on to the next player by adding a card of the same rank, before beating anything. Full rules with examples: Hebrew, Russian (throw-in), Russian (transfer).
